I would like to see Laura herself, can I do so and have ongoing appointments with her?
As the Owner and Director of the practice, Laura tries to see as many new clients as possible to help the client decide which therapist is best suited to their particular needs. We have many competent therapists here, each of whom collaborate with Laura on an ongoing basis, which ensures that all clients are receiving quality care.
Do I need a referral to come to Laura’s Place?
No, you do not need a referral to book an appointment to see us. There are certain circumstances where a person or family may be referred to us by their GP or other specialist. These referrals may enable you to claim some of your costs back.
Does Laura do home visits to "see what is going on?"
Yes, she will but the first session has to be a history taking session in her rooms. Other therapists will do school and preschool observations. Occasionally therapists may do a home visit, usually accompanying Laura. Home appointments are priced individually, time and location are always considered and they are always more expensive than a regular appointment at the practice.
How can I prepare my child for a visit to Laura's?
For some children, visiting a new place can be quite daunting. We've prepared some simple social stories which you can download or print to help familiarise your child with the grounds, the office area, the people they might meet and some of the activities that they can look forward to when they get here. There are two slightly different groups of stories. If they are coming for a specific assessment click here. If they are coming to see a clinician click here.
Am I eligible for Government Funding?
There are Australian government funded programs available that offer much needed support and that make therapy for children with special needs more affordable. Better Access for Mental Health (BAMH), Helping Children with Autism (HCWA) and other funding initiatives provided through FaHCSIA (the Department of Families, Housing, Community Service and Indigenous Affairs).
More information on these and other programs can be found here.
Can I claim on my private health?
Each private health fund is different with various levels of cover offered. Please contact your health insurance fund directly to enquire if they cover counselling services.
What are your fees?
